In 1955, Dan Burkleo started a construction company in Monterey, California that helped him provide a living for his wife, Jean, and their 6 children. As the economy and construction demands in the area changed, Dan changed with it, mastering trades from general construction to painting to roofing. Over the years, most of his kids helped out on the construction crew or in the office to help Dan keep the business running. Bill Burkleo, Dan’s youngest son, started working on the construction crew when he was 14 years old and completed the roofer’s apprenticeship program when he was 21, leading work crews only a few years later.
In 1984, when Dan announced that he planned on retiring, his youngest daughter, Judy, stepped in to help Bill lead their father’s company into its second generation. Dan retired in 1986, leaving his two youngest children to carry on his reputation of quality service to the community. Bill and Judy grew Burkleo Roofing Inc. through the 1990’s and into the 2000’s, maintaining the standards that their father had set earlier on. Judy retired from Burkleo Roofing Inc in 2005, leaving Bill as the sole owner to carry on the legacy.
Today, Burkleo Roofing Inc. continues to be a family run local business, with Bill’s wife, Paula, working in the office, Bill’s oldest son, Jesse, running the marketing, sales and estimates, and Bill’s youngest son, Chad, working the trade on the crew. Burkleo Roofing Inc has been around for over half a century because of the foundations of hard work and quality workmanship that Dan Burkleo laid. A tradition that continues today and will continue for many years to come.
